The juicer.

Have you ever noticed that carrots are a lot like people? They come in all shapes and sizes – some are long and skinny; some are stubby and fat; some have more of those little vegetable hairs than others – or rougher “skin” – but in the end, of course, they are all carrots. I noticed this tonight, after my father brought home a 25 lb bag of organic carrots and a juicer (which he’s been talking about purchasing for a month now). I was given the task of chopping the carrots and I couldn’t help but imagine what carrots would look like if they were people…and, in reality, how they are not so different from humans after all.

Do yourself a favor and have this for breakfast one morning! :)

A handful of your favorite nut pieces (walnuts, pecans, etc.)

1. Pour the rolled oats in the bowl along with the milk. Set that aside to soak.

Candle Cafe

On the same weekend that it was rainy in Union Square for Farmer’s Market, I had my friend Gem up to visit from North Carolina.  We had a blast. We always do…our adventures are never in short supply.  You can read more about THOSE on our blog, GaBBAdventures.  Anyway, during her visit, we dined at Candle Cafe, an amazing vegan restaurant on the Upper East Side. Because I seem to be only blogging about food lately, I’m going to give you taste of this amazing place (in pics) in the hopes that you will go there – you won’t regret it, believe me.

"we look like wet dogs" - Gem

Appetizer - Mezze Plate - Hummus, quinoa tabouli, lemon-date chutney, marinated olives, parata bread and zataar.

Gem: Paradise Casserole - Layers of sweet potato, black beans, and brown rice sitting on a bed of greens.

Me: Tuscan Lasagna (with nut cheeses and tofu...YUM) on a bed of steamed greens.

Dessert: Wheat-free Chocolate Mousse Pie (SO FRIGGIN' AMAZING!)

So anyway, we were totally stuffed by the end (obviously) and even had leftovers. Our server was super sweet and the vibe was chill, so we stayed and talked for a while.

The point: Don’t throw the idea of vegan food out the window. It’s just as delicious (if not more, cause it’s healthier) as other non-vegan restaurants.

Muahhhhhh…

Union Square Farmer’s Market

Even on a rainy Friday, there is a vibrancy (and sweet aroma too!) that seeps from the tents that line Union Square for Farmer’s Market. Fresh baked breads and scones; plump, juicy fruits; meats; apple cider, even–all of these represent food in its best form: grown from hard working people who appreciate the beauty of caring for their produce themselves. I was struck by the bright, rich colors that are present even on a rainy day…

A grey day...

these scones are to die for! Check out the Pumpkin one...only $1.50

Happy Mouthwatering,

202 and Elenie’s in Chelsea Market

Recently I went out for Sunday brunch with my aunt and Betsey. We chose 202, which is a perfect mix of food and fashion. Surrounded by designs by Nicole Fahri-which were lovely by the way-we each enjoyed a delectable brunch:

French Toast w/ Maple Syrup and Blackberries

Hammy-Cheesy-Eggy Sandwich

Fish Tacos w/ cilantro, lime, and chile

Because we decided we hadn’t had enough starches, carbs, and sugar, we decided to zoom over to Eleni’s, which also resides in Chelsea Market…

epic Obama cupcakes...

Betsey and I chose the German Chocolate cupcakes...SO good

Yes, yes, I know – be jealous :)
