Abortion Clinic Horror

I am disgusted, saddened, and more resolved than ever to stand against this kind of cruelty.

National Prayer Breakfast 2013 – Dr. Ben Carson

This speech is well worth watching – wonderfully crafted, funny, and refreshingly honest.

A bit about Dr. Ben Carson:
-Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital
-Separated the first conjoined twins at the head
-Overcame his extreme circumstances in his youth, attending Yale University for his undergrad degree

Amendment One.

I am sad. I am sad by the hypocrisy all around me. I’m not talking the hypocrisy of any specific group of people – I’m talking about all groups of people. Everyone is so focused on their own agenda that no one remembers that love is about thinking about the OTHER person. Imagine a world where true love (you know, the one that’s patient and kind and does not boast, etc.) rules all of us….hard to imagine, right? Each of us has such a specific idea of love based on our experiences and beliefs. Most of the time our ideas of true love are completely different. However, sometimes, there are groups of people that believe the same about love. When these groups come against each other, love itself is forgotten amidst competition and self-righteousness. What takes over then? The opposite of love. Hate.

Yesterday, Amendment One passed in North Carolina.  A barrage of horrendous, hateful comments have infiltrated the internet from both sides since then. I’ve seen the word “love” thrown around in sentences with profanity and unveiled anger. I’ve witnessed intense persecution against “religion” – Christianity, specifically. And I’ve seen disgusting homophobia. Hate.

What’s happening here? Since when are Christians the only one to blame for voting according to traditional values? I myself have family members who are ATHEISTS and they voted FOR the amendment.  Alternatively, how DARE the church hatefully quote the Bible? The thing that angered Jesus more than anything else was the hypocrisy of the Pharisees!

Please, I adjure the (very few :)) people reading this to reconsider the way you approach this situation. Let’s rise above together by considering and respecting each other’s viewpoints on life. We have all felt alienated and alone at some point. Let’s not create those feelings in this situation. Whether you lauded the passing of the Amendment or were severely disappointed, use your powers of empathy and compassion for the party with views different from your own.

I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.
